[07:18]<+camerongray> Hey Calum
[07:18]<@Calum> hey camerongray
[07:18]<+camerongray> Replacement mobo comes today
[07:18]<+camerongray> "Gary is 15 mins away!
[07:19]<@Calum> ah nice!
[07:19]<@Calum> did they pre flash it?
[07:19]<+camerongray> Didn't say - Bailey said he put it on the RMA request though so they would do it if they weren't too busy
[07:20]<@Calum> ah cool
[07:20]<@Calum> hopefully it's been done then
[07:21]<+camerongray> Yeah
[07:21]<@Calum> man I'm glad to be home, already been buying stuff though hah
[07:21]<@Calum> have to let me know how that board is once you get it set up
[07:22]<+camerongray> Yep, will do
[07:22]<+camerongray> You were away? :P
[07:22]<@Calum> oh, nobody missed me huh? :P
[07:22]<+camerongray> lol, I noticed you weren't here :P
[07:22]<@Calum> heh, yeah I was away from monday till today
[07:23]<+camerongray> Ahh nice
[07:23]<@Calum> in the peak district, in the middle of nowhere, with barely a GPRS signal
[07:23]<+camerongray> haha yeah
[07:23]<@Calum> so not much forum-ing or anything heh
[07:23]<+camerongray> Dah, come on "Gary" - He's still 15 mins away
[07:23]<@Calum> got back to civilisation and saw OcUK had an "A grade" sale on, bought a couple things :P
[07:24]<+camerongray> lol
[07:24]<+camerongray> Aww, issed the £9.95 A grade board :P
[07:24]<+camerongray> Oh...DDR2
[07:25]<@Calum> I got that one :P
[07:25]<+camerongray> lol
[07:25]<@Calum> along with a Phenom 850, some DDR3 for £20, DVD drives for £5, and some laptop DDR2
[07:25]<+camerongray> nice!
[07:25]<+camerongray> I take it they found a lot of old stuff or something, they also have an 8800gt
[07:25]<@Calum> spent like £95 all together, not too bad
[07:25]<@Calum> yeah they did, it's basically when they find old stock from stocktakes and things
[07:25]<+camerongray> Ahh!
[07:26]<@Calum> so some of the pricing is ridiculously cheap, some is really bad
[07:26]<+camerongray> Does it juet get stuck on a shelf or somethng? :P
[07:26]<@Calum> like the i7 965 for £600
[07:26]<+camerongray> lol!
[07:26]<@Calum> it can get lost in many places heh
[07:26]<@Calum> I thought they would probably not have anything really old due to the recent move
[07:26]<@Calum> but it seems I was wrong
[07:26]<+camerongray> lol
[07:27]<+camerongray> Quite a few good looking deals there
[07:27]<@Calum> some decent deals to be had there yeah
[07:27]<@Calum> the RAM all went really fast, well most of it anyway
[07:29]<@Calum> I didn't even see that board was DDR2 but at least I have some spare
[07:29]<+camerongray> Arg - £200 for a 680 or £245 for a 7970, do not need, do not need
[07:29]<@Calum> those deals aren't that great tbh
[07:30]<+camerongray> Ahh
[07:30]<@Calum> can pick up 6960s well under £200 used
[07:30]<@Calum> and they've been around £200 on deals new as well
[07:30]<@Calum> *7970s even
[07:30]<+camerongray> Ahh
[07:31]<@Calum> £200 for a 680 isn't bad though, as it's new not b grade so full warranty etc
[07:31]<@Calum> I would still buy used myself, still cheaper, but it's not bad for a new card
[07:31]<+camerongray> *sigh* - LC abusing a guest for getting mixed up between their PSU and the wall outlet...
[07:32]<@Calum> stay classy LC...
[07:33]<+camerongray> Yeah
[07:33]<+camerongray> Did you see what I said about DB?
[07:33]<@Calum> just saw it
[07:33]<@Calum> lol
[07:33]<+camerongray> lol
[07:34]<+camerongray> Then the home server thing, they are clearly useless aren't they :P
[07:34]<@Calum> indeed
[07:34]<+camerongray> I mean, why not just use an internal dirve o
[07:34]<+camerongray> drive on all your machines*
[07:34]<@Calum> yeah, let's duplicate everything on every PC, makes sense
[07:35]<+camerongray> yeah, just use an external HDD to move files over
[07:36]<@Calum> lol
[07:36]<@Calum> man I need another spare PSU, missed out on the "A grade" 400W Antec
[07:36]<@Calum> and Scan had a 520W for £25 or something the other day but I didn't need it then!
[07:37]<+camerongray> Ahh nice
[07:37]<+camerongray> I have a crappy 400w "Ace" one
[07:37]<+camerongray> It's fine for testing thoufg
[07:37]<@Calum> bleh
[07:37]<+camerongray> though*
[07:38]<@Calum> I have a Silverstone 850 and a Corsair 520 or 620, forget which...I only want a low powered one though heh, I did have a Seasonic 500 or thereabouts but gave that away a while ago
[07:38]<+camerongray> Ahh nice
[07:39]<@Calum> the Silverstone has a load of really incredibly hugely long braided cables though which is mildly irritating
[07:39]<+camerongray> Hmm, does OCUK still use their old warehouse?
[07:39]<@Calum> I don't think so, why?
[07:40]<+camerongray> Return address on the motherboard shows the Millenium Way one
[07:40]<@Calum> interesting
[07:40]<+camerongray> Unless they forgot to update their system :P
[07:40]<@Calum> I wouldn't have thought they did but I could be wrong, that is possible that they haven't changed it yeah
[07:41]<@Calum> I vaguely remember someone saying that they accepted RMAs to their old address for a while when they moved last time
[07:41]<+camerongray> Dah! THis board doesn't have the IO shield or cables, old one did :P
[07:41]<@Calum> oldest trick in the book :P you should've kept those!
[07:42]<@Calum> always keep all accessories, return only the bare minimum :)
[07:42]<+camerongray> Yeah :P
[07:42]<@Calum> that sucks though
[07:43]<+camerongray> Oh well, it was £20
[07:43]<@Calum> true
[07:44]<+camerongray> Not sure if it's been flashed, all the RAM clips were open when they would have probably just used one stick to test
[07:44]<+camerongray> Then again, there is paste on the CPU socket
[07:46]<@Calum> one way to find out then
[07:46]<@Calum> oh good, so this laptop worked perfectly before I went away, but now the Windows install is FUBAR
[07:46]<@Calum> *sigh*
[07:47]<+camerongray> lol
[07:47]<@Calum> I should've never trusted you, Vista!
[07:47]<+camerongray> haha
[07:55]<PCdoc> Hi Calum
[07:55]<@Calum> hey PCdoc
[07:57]<@Calum> hmm...it's either Vista or the SSD
[07:57]<PCdoc> Calum: pm?
[07:58]<@Calum> sure
[08:04]<PCdoc> How are Asus routers?
[08:05]<@Calum> Mostly pretty good
[08:06]<PCdoc> I am having a hard time setting it up .. at a client's place
[08:06]<PCdoc> just upgraded the firmware
[08:07]<PCdoc> hate to visit them especially when they are having dinner
[08:09]<Craig> gOOD MORNIGN GUYS
[08:09]<Craig> OOps "{
[08:09]<Craig> :P
[08:10]<Craig> Good mornging
[08:10]<PCdoc> good evening
[08:13]<@Calum> hmph, looks like this SSD has had it
[08:14]<@BC_Programming> congrats
[08:14]<Craig> And now you know why I dislike SSDs
[08:14]<Craig> ... :P
[08:14]<@Calum> well, HDDs never die :P
[08:14]<Craig> Not as frequently.
[08:14]<@BC_Programming> lol here we go
[08:15]<Craig> Although, I wouldnt mind a Commercial SSD. :)
[08:15]<PCdoc> yeah one of my client's dies today of a laptop. Unfortunately it was 80GB iDE. poor man its not available anymkore :(
[08:15]<PCdoc> anymore*
[08:15]<@BC_Programming> one of your client died of a laptop? ouch
[08:15]<Craig> :P
[08:15]<PCdoc> hdd *
[08:15]<PCdoc> sorry
[08:15]<PCdoc> =))
[08:15]<Craig> So he died of a HDD?
[08:15]<PCdoc> grrr
[08:16]<Craig> You started it, :P
[08:16]<PCdoc> client's laptop hard disk died today *
[08:17]<Craig> Ahhh, see that makes more sense. :P :)
[08:17]<Craig> Gotta go,
[08:17]<PCdoc> me too
[08:17]<Craig> Gotta have a shower, and head to work. :) Laters
[08:17]<@Calum> later
[08:18]<@Calum> think I'll have to try flashing the firmware again, it's just such a PITA as this drive doesn't seem to want to take the update
[08:18]<@Calum> which is probably why the previous owner didn't flash it
[08:19]<@BC_Programming> what's it doing to make you think it's done
[08:19]<@Calum> ah well, you get what you pay for I guess, and I didn't actually want this drive in the first place hah, I paid him for a different drive and there was a mix up
[08:19]<@Calum> oh, the Windows install won't boot any more, gives a different error each time about files or registry missing, then I was just running chkdsk and it stopped responding
[08:19]<@Calum> running it again to see what happens
[08:20]<@Calum> my external dock does sometimes stop responding after a while so it could've just been that
[08:20]<PCdoc> and Intel is encouraging us to sell SSD's instead of HDD
[08:20]<@Calum> oh but now it's died again
[08:21]<@Calum> I would take a good SSD over a good HDD any day, I've replaced far fewer SSDs than HDDs (if you don't take notoriously bad drives into account)
[08:21]<PCdoc> but are ssd repairable?
[08:21]<@Calum> nope, but nor is a HDD, not affordably anyway
[08:22]<PCdoc> yeah but you can recover data of hdd atleast by either changing the mainboard from a same hard drive if you have some old ones.
[08:23]<@Calum> sure, if you have the exact same model, firmware etc lying around, but that's kind of unlikely
[08:23]<PCdoc> I had seen online somewhere, an adapter to which you can connect your hard drive to recover data. The adaptor is like a universal mainboard for all hard drives
[08:23]<PCdoc> but it was quite expensive
[08:24]<PCdoc> it will take a lot of time to recover the money invested from data recovery
[08:24]<@Calum> yeah
[08:26]<PCdoc> g2g .. cya laters
[08:26] * PCdoc (PCdoc@15694EF3.F8E5A480.EE292452.IP) has left #glitchpc (Leaving)
[08:52]<+camerongray> Calum: It was preflashed!
[08:52]<@Calum> nice!
[08:54]<@Calum> ah sweet just got my shipping notification for the stuff I bought, so none of it did go out of stock while I was trying to buy on my phone lol
[08:54]<+camerongray> lol
[08:54]<+camerongray> Now to assemble the HTPC in the case
[08:54]<@Calum> awesome
[09:27]<@Calum> camerongray: can you remember how much postage was for that server?
[09:27]<@BC_Programming> 70 bajillion pounds is my estimate
[09:27]<@Calum> sounds close actually
[09:47]<+camerongray> Not a clue :P
[09:48]<+camerongray> HTPC built, mesiest build ever but it works
[09:48]<@Calum> heh, no worries, I did some guesstimating and gave the guy a semi random number
[09:48]<@Calum> awesome

[17:59]<Tux2> Oooh yeah! Garry's Mod finally came to linux. :D
[18:00]<Tux2> AND it's in the latest humble bundle. ;)
[18:00]<@BC_Programming> It's apparently in the Humble bundle too
[18:00]<@BC_Programming> heh
[18:00]<@BC_Programming> typing at the same time
[18:00]<Tux2> lol, already bought. ;)
[18:00]<@BC_Programming> yeah I already have Garry's Mod, I saw it when I went to HumbleBundle to get my Starbound key
[18:01]<Tux2> :)
[18:01]<@BC_Programming> Starbound runs on Linux at launch
[18:01]<@BC_Programming> at least that's what it says... apparently it works for Craig at least
[18:03]<Tux2> What humble bundle was that in?
[18:04]<@BC_Programming> starbound? It wasn't in one
[18:04]<@BC_Programming> they are using Humblebundle for payment it seems
[18:05]<Tux2> Ah, gotcha
[18:06]<@BC_Programming> It's a cool game, already been patched now it doesn't crash for me anymore :D
[18:15]<Craig> Hey BC, wanna play some Multiplayer?
[18:16]<@BC_Programming> How does multiplayer work anyway
[18:16]<Craig> You can host a server, since my computer is weak... :S
[18:16]<Craig> There is a server exe in the root of starbound
[18:16]<Craig> :)
[18:16]<Craig> port 21056 I think?
[18:16]<@BC_Programming> well I meant how does it work gameplay wise
[18:16]<Craig> Same as terraria?
[18:16]<Craig> I think
[18:17]<Craig> I was watching TB play, looks simple enough
[18:17]<Craig> *Total Biscuit
[18:17]<@BC_Programming> from what I can read you bring your own starship and everything that is inside with you onto the server as well as your character
[18:17]<@BC_Programming> and only people you add to your party can board your ship
[18:17]<Craig> Crazy
[18:18]<@BC_Programming> Buuut I don't have time right now :/ Helping one of my co-workers with some Lookup stuff
[18:18]<Craig> Awww dang
[18:18]<Craig> Cause I have an epic farm going. :)
[18:18]<@BC_Programming> we hired a new guy today also now I'm third from the bottom :D
[18:20]<@BC_Programming> But if we don't get this move from THEOS finished by April we're all screwed
[18:23]<Craig> Woot, I am traveling to a NEW SOLAR SYSTEM!. :)
[18:23]<Craig> Need to find coal before I can come back though... :S
[18:23]<@BC_Programming> I'm in beta sector :P
[18:23]<@BC_Programming> already killed the penguin boss
[18:23]<Craig> Nice
[18:23]<Craig> Dang, I cant kill him... :(
[18:23]<@BC_Programming> I built this box of obsidian and had a little hole in the top
[18:24]<@BC_Programming> took forever to kill it with the iron hunting bow but he died eventually
[18:24]<@BC_Programming> I also found 5 diamond in a chest, but need platinum to upgrade :/
[18:24]<Craig> CRAZY!!!!
[18:25]<@BC_Programming> you can use wood as fuel also fwiw
[18:25]<@BC_Programming> you probably know that though
[18:26]<@BC_Programming> SSD is still sitting here, lol
[18:26]<@BC_Programming> based on the difference in time from when it shipped and the Red Shipped the WD Red ought to be here Monday
[18:34]<@BC_Programming> I'm quite tempted to try a new install over the weekend anyway... must resist
[18:38]<Craig> Heheheh
[18:39]<@BC_Programming> But soo much faster
[18:39]<@BC_Programming> much speed
[18:50]<Jamer> welp my acer laptop is fixed
[19:43]<+camerongray> BC_Programming: Well, if you do a new install on the SSD you can keep your old one on your HDD so it's still there for until the new one is completely ready
[19:44]<@BC_Programming> I'd be copying to the SSD from this one anyway
[19:44]<@BC_Programming> mostly the documents folder and stuff
[19:45]<@BC_Programming> the nthere are the long boring installs... though I could probably make those take no longer than downloading by downloading fresh ISOs from MSDN and mounting them heh
[19:45]<@BC_Programming> I guess the 4TB is more an excuse not to do it really, heh

[21:02]<@BC_Programming> I think tomorrow I'll spend the morning setting up this SSD
[21:04]<Craig> 8
[21:04]<@BC_Programming> 8, exactly
[21:10]<Craig> I have found 5 identical Thought assessment places. ?
[21:11]<@BC_Programming> the "thought reassignment" things are all the same
[21:11]<@BC_Programming> sometimes those worlds have a dungeon area though, I found one with a bunch of robots
[21:13]<Craig> That would be awesome, I Have already killed off a temple of some kind. Nothing really that great in there...
[21:13]<@BC_Programming> I can one-shot level 16 enemies with the spear I found

[21:17]<@BC_Programming> I basically have that and a Steel hunting bow
[21:17]<Craig> Danng
[21:17]<@BC_Programming> though that basically does scratch damage to the monsters I see now...
[21:17]<Craig> Yeah I have a steel bow too. :)
[21:17]<@BC_Programming> I wonder if it upgrades further
[21:18]<@BC_Programming> Iron->Steel->Platinum->Diamond heh
[21:18]<Craig> Yeah, that would be amazing
[21:24]<Craig> So what are you up to anyway?
[21:25]<@BC_Programming> rewriting our config classes to read from the database
[21:25]<Craig> Is there anyone working with you?
[21:26]<@BC_Programming> You mean in person? No
[21:26]<@BC_Programming> not with the configs either
[21:26]<Craig> I mean in general
[21:26]<@BC_Programming> well yeah, the entire engineering team :P
[21:27]<Craig> Holy crap
[21:27]<@BC_Programming> that's 5 people though
[21:28]<@BC_Programming> we need to move the system completely away from Theos before April or we'll lose a bunch of clients, either that or find a way to prevent the THEOS crashes from affecting them
[21:29]<Craig> Sounds like fun... :S
[21:29]<@BC_Programming> the configs need changing so installing the programs isn't a PITA
[21:29]<@BC_Programming> And I have to rework my UpdateLister to read the update executables from a binary blob instead of from a share
[21:32]<@BC_Programming> can't find my win7 disc
[21:32]<@BC_Programming> time to download and burn a new one I guess

[21:39]<Craig> I am gathering Light metal (wall components) for upgrading my ship. :)
[21:39]<@BC_Programming> you can't make the ship bigger yet according to Reddit
[21:40]<Craig> Oh, well, I can damage the walls though?
[21:40]<@BC_Programming> yeah only the background
[21:41]<Craig> Ahhh I see, I see
[21:42]<@BC_Programming> bah I found two 32-bit Windows 7 discs
[21:42]<@BC_Programming> no x64
